Traditional Dish of Arezzo " La Scottiglia"





This is an ancient dish, very common in farms country. The peasant used for cooking the less noble parts of the meat of the animals slaughtered in the day, because the best quality of the meat was belonging to the farms’owners or for selling it. In the evening, when the laborers were returning from the fields, even in a world without television, the families were "to find" friends of the neighboring farms and by the fireplace the women cooked in the most tastfull way the pieces of meat, from this tradition came out this recipe, La Scottiglia.
Ingredients:

1 kg. mixed meat, including pork, veal, chicken, rabbit, pigeon and guinea fowl;
500 gr. of tomato sauce
250 gr. of meat broth
1 onion
3 cloves of garlic
1 red pepper Parsley (a handful),
basil (a bit of leaves)
1 glass of white wine
Slices of Tuscan bread
Half cup of extra virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper
Retrieve this recipe of our tradition: the onion is minced so fine enough with two cloves of garlic, parsley and basil. We take the earthenware pan, we put the oil , onion, garlic and and let them sauté slowly, adding the chilli. When the vegetables are colorful, we add the meat, cut into pieces, continuing to turn getting often wine and meat broth. Finally we add the mixed tomatoes, salt and pepper and we cook until the sauce will get thick showing a nice dark red color.
Then we toast the slices of bread rubbing them with garlic.
Put in a tray the bread’s slices and pour on them the stewed mix meat wiping the last remaining clove and garlic. And we taste the special dish called La Scottiglia, tradition dish of Arezzo town.
In typical restaurant in Arezzo or in Cortona we find this dish perfectly following the local tradition.

Lucca Camelia festival March2011













We are at the door of this yearly event taking on just outside Lucca, in the northern hills of the town Pieve di Compito reachable by the way n.439, juts 14km. from Lucca town.
Festival of Camellias (green and black teas are camellia leaves) on the days 12/13 March and 19/20 and 26/27 of March.
The habitants of this little village open their private gardens where are growing different kind of Camelia , by this visit you can enjoy the peace of the nature, the way showing art, crafts and paitings by the local artisans, all matching with food and wein tasting and a visit at the Frantoio where col pressed olive oil can be appreciate.

Camelia flowers and trees became very popular in Lucca 200 years ago and due to the mild climate of this Tuscan corner, this beatiful and romantic flowers have started to bloom in the gardens of Lucca and in the beautiful Renaissance villas that you can visit during your stay.
